About

A Society for all

The Royal Tunbridge Wells Art Society known as RTWAS, has provided inspiration for artists and would-be artists in Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area since 1933. With our Gallery/Workshop on The Pantiles the Society is a centre for members, friends and visitors to meet and enjoy exhibitions, open days and other social events.

During the week and now on Saturdays, we aim to grow and stimulate the talents of our artists through workshops, tutorials, demonstrations and practice. There is a vast array of skills amongst our members, including life drawing, urban sketching, abstraction and pouring acrylic paint. Through demonstration and experiment we explore classical techniques and modern trends. We are now delving into Photography, Textiles and Ceramics as another aspect of art.

The Society offers an opportunity for those who are new to drawing and painting, or returning after a long gap, to develop their individual style alongside more experienced artists. Members can exhibit their work at least 3 times a year at the Society’s regular exhibitions which provides a chance for work to expand and mature.

AIMS

The main object of the Society is to promote an interest in the visual arts by providing facilities for those in Royal Tunbridge Wells and the neighbourhood who wish to take part in our educational activities, which include workshops, tutorials, professional criticism and exhibitions of work throughout the year.

Membership

Our members range from professional, trained and self-taught artists to improvers and beginners, all of whom are friendly and helpful.
